Tips On How To Improve The Appearance of Keloids

Updated on September 9, 2011

When we were a baby, our parents would see to it that we get the necessary immunizations to protect us and strengthen our immunity from communicable diseases. However, some of us are keloid forming and these areas of our body where we had these injections later on developed into a keloid. At first, we just took it for granted. But as the keloid continues to grow, we noticed that it has become unsightly and may cause problems later on. For those of you who want to get rid of it, below are some suggestions:

1) Calamansi

Some older people believe that calamansi helps minimize the size of keloids. After heating the calamansi, press it on the keloid for a few minutes. Just make sure that you can take how hot it is. They believe that heated calamansi shrinks keloids.

2) Contratubex

This is an ointment that you can apply to your keloid 3-4 times a day. I have this keloid in my left arm and have used Contratubex for a few weeks. My keloid shrunk and it continues to minimize it's size. I'm so happy with the results.

Contratubex can also be used for scars all over the body. For scars on your legs, you can mix a few of Contratubex in water and suspend your legs to it for 10-15 minutes. Better results were reported.

3) Mederma

I always hear about Mederma for the treatment of scars. One of my friends is using it and I checked the packaging and it can also help keloid problems. Mederma can be bought online. Not sure though if you can find it in your local pharmacies. I have used it a few times and it functions similar to Contratubex.

4) Steroid Injection

Steroid injection to the specific area is one way of treating keloids. However, according to some people who have undergone this kind of treatment, the keloid grows back. Some people don't recommend it.

5.) Operation

Another way is removal of the keloid by operation. However similar to Steriod Injections, there were reports that the keloid grew back.

The above are just tips based on research and actual experiences. I have a keloid and have used Contratubex and Mederma. Both are very much efeective with me. My keloid have shrunk it's size and I will continue using it till it disappears.
